Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich is a highly collectable limited-edition blended Scotch whisky built around exceptionally rare stocks from the closed Pittyvaich Distillery. Released as the fourth expression in the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare series, it offers a fleeting opportunity to experience whisky from one of Scotland’s shortest-lived distilleries.

Pittyvaich began production in Dufftown in 1974 but closed in 1993 after operating for only 19 years. The distillery was later demolished, leaving its remaining mature casks increasingly scarce. For this release, Johnnie Walker’s blending team selected rare Pittyvaich whisky for its distinctive orchard-fruit character, autumnal richness and gently woody depth.

The Pittyvaich spirit is joined by rare whiskies from the closed Port Dundas and Carsebridge grain distilleries, alongside carefully selected malt whiskies from Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore, Strathmill and Royal Lochnagar. Together, these components create a luxurious blended Scotch with layers of dark fruit, baked orchard fruit, honeyed sweetness, soft oak and restrained spice.

The aroma opens with ripe berries and dark fruit before developing notes of butterscotch, stewed apples and pears, cinnamon and polished oak. On the palate, crisp green apple and orchard fruit are balanced by honeycomb sweetness, vanilla and gentle wood spice. The texture is smooth and rounded, with deeper malt, caramel and softly toasted oak flavours emerging as the whisky develops.

The finish is rich, elegant and exceptionally long, leaving lingering honey, baked apple, butterscotch and seasoned wood. Its balance of fresh fruit, mature sweetness and subtle spice highlights the distinctive character that Pittyvaich contributes to the blend.

Bottled at 43.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle, each Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich release is individually numbered and presented in its original luxury gift box. The blue-and-gold packaging carries a unique design inspired by the rare whisky at the heart of the blend, distinguishing it from both the standard Blue Label presentation and other Ghost and Rare editions.
