Islay Mist is one of Scotland's most historic blended Scotch whiskies and is widely regarded as the world's original peated blend. Its story began in 1927 when Ian Hunter of Laphroaig was asked to create a whisky for the 21st birthday celebration of John Morrison, heir to Islay House. While Laphroaig's famously medicinal peat character was considered too intense for many guests, Hunter created a smoother blend by combining Laphroaig with carefully selected Speyside malt and grain whiskies, giving birth to what became Islay Mist.
Nearly a century later, Islay Mist remains true to that original philosophy, balancing the unmistakable smoky character of Islay with the elegance and sweetness of Highland and Speyside whiskies. The result is a richly layered blended Scotch that appeals equally to peat lovers and those discovering smoky whisky for the first time.
