Another important milestone came in 2018, when Hampden launched its first official bottlings, giving a distillery long known to blenders and independent bottlers a clearer identity in its own name.
Hampden Estate has built its reputation on a distinctly traditional style of Jamaican rum. Fermentation lasts between 8 and 15 days in wooden vats using wild yeasts, the distillery runs entirely on pot stills, and its range of different marks gives Hampden unusual scope to produce rums with very different levels of aromatic intensity and ester content. Ageing at the estate began in 2010, and recent bottlings such as the 8 Year Old, HLCF Classic, 1753 and the annual Great House releases have helped establish Hampden as one of the defining names in high-ester Jamaican rum.
