About Captain Morgan
Captain Morgan takes its name from Sir Henry Morgan, the 17th-century Welsh privateer associated with Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. The brand itself was introduced by Seagram’s in 1944 for rums produced at Long Pond in Jamaica. The version that shaped the modern brand, Captain Morgan Original Spiced, was launched in 1984 and became the expression most closely associated with the name.
Captain Morgan became part of Diageo in 2001 when Diageo acquired part of Seagram’s spirits business. Today it sits within Diageo’s rum portfolio as a Caribbean rum brand sold in more than 100 countries, with the range extending beyond Original Spiced Gold into white rum, flavoured expressions, premixed serves and alcohol-free releases.
