Blue Spot belongs to the historic Spot Whiskey family created by Dublin wine merchant and whiskey bonder Mitchell & Son. The Spot name comes from the practice of marking maturing casks with coloured paint to show their intended age: blue for 7 years, green for 10, yellow for 12 and red for 15. The range has its roots in the days when Mitchell & Son matured Jameson spirit from Bow Street in wine and fortified wine casks beneath Dublin.
