About Black Bull
Black Bull was first registered in 1864 by Dundee grocer and whisky blender George Willsher. At a time when many blended Scotch whiskies were moving towards lighter styles, Black Bull was built around a higher-strength, malt-rich recipe, traditionally using a 50:50 balance of malt and grain whisky. The brand is now owned by Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky, the independent bottler founded in Glasgow in 1938 and now based in Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
Duncan Taylor revived Black Bull in 2009, keeping the focus on robust blended Scotch bottled at 50% ABV. The range includes Black Bull 12 Year Old, Kyloe and older limited releases, with the style centred on generous malt weight, sherry and bourbon cask influence, spice, dark fruit and a fuller body than many standard blends.
