About Balcones
Balcones was founded in Waco, Texas, in 2008, beginning in an old welding shop under a bridge before growing into one of the leading names in American single malt and Texas whisky. The distillery helped establish Texas as a serious whisky-producing region, with early releases including Baby Blue, a blue corn whisky, and Texas “1” Single Malt. Its name comes from the Balcones Fault, the geological fault line running through central Texas.
Production is shaped by Waco’s intense climate, where high heat, cold snaps and sharp temperature swings drive active maturation. The range includes American single malt, rye, corn whisky and limited releases, with styles often showing bold oak, roasted grain, rich fruit, spice and a deep, concentrated character. Diageo acquired Balcones in 2022, adding the distillery to its American whiskey portfolio.
