Each of the 24 wax-sealed drams nestles on its own shelf in an exquisite custom cabinet, hand-made from black oak and walnut by master craftsman Simon Jewell. There’s a drawer filled with tasting notes, and a pair of Riedel glasses to ensure that your tasting journey is flawless from beginning to end.
The collection of whiskies within this cabinet is nothing short of jaw-dropping. You’ll find offerings from lost distilleries alongside highly sought-after, collectible expressions from the likes of Karuizawa, Port Ellen, Yamazaki, and The Macallan, to name but a few.
How Was it Made?
Drinks by the Dram enlisted the help of a local bespoke furniture maker who specialises in creating handcrafted boxes and exquisite artefacts. He looked to old antique apothecary cabinets for inspiration with this design, laying out everything inside neatly so its contents were smartly displayed and easy to see.
After perfecting all the technicalities regarding veneers, jointing, and scale, he selected superb details to finish this opulent design. There’s a tree ring pattern formed from black oak and inlaid into the walnut doors, with an engraved stainless steel panel, and push button catches to open it. Within, everything is lined with cream suede, and there’s a superbly sturdy leather carry handle on top. From the moment you push those catches and open the doors, to when you crack open a dram and pour it into your glass, and slide open the drawer to inspect the tasting notes, this is an immensely tactile hand-built work of art.
