About Black Cow
Black Cow was launched in West Dorset in 2012 by dairy farmer Jason Barber and Paul “Archie” Archard. Barber is a fifth-generation dairy farmer, and the brand was developed around using milk from grass-grazed cows as the base for vodka rather than grain or potatoes. Production is based on a farm near Beaminster, close to the family dairy operation.
The vodka is made by separating milk into curds and whey: the curds are used for cheese, while the whey is fermented and distilled into a clear spirit. This gives Black Cow its distinctive dairy-led origin while also making use of a cheesemaking by-product. The range centres on Black Cow Pure Milk Vodka, alongside flavoured expressions such as Black Cow & English Strawberries.
