Bols is one of the oldest Dutch spirits names, with origins in Amsterdam dating back to 1575. The Bols family began by distilling liqueurs, with early flavours including cumin, cardamom and orange, before the business became closely associated with genever, cocktail liqueurs and Dutch distilling heritage. Lucas Bols later became the key family figure behind its expansion during the Dutch Golden Age, when Amsterdam’s trade links brought new herbs, spices and fruits into the city.
