Brandy became part of Torres in 1928, when Juan Torres Casals began distilling white wines from the Penedès and ageing the spirit in oak. The winery and distillery were bombed in 1939 during the Spanish Civil War and rebuilt in 1940, after which Torres continued to expand its wine and spirits business. Today, Juan Torres Master Distillers remains the family’s dedicated spirits division, while the wider company also has vineyards and wineries across Spain, Chile and California and has put major emphasis on recovering ancestral grape varieties and regenerative viticulture.
