About Southern Comfort
Southern Comfort was created in New Orleans in 1874 by bartender Martin Wilkes Heron, who developed a smoother and more approachable alternative to the harsh whiskeys commonly served at the time. Inspired by Heron’s original recipe, Southern Comfort combines American whiskey with distinctive fruit and spice flavours, creating a sweet, smooth character with notes of vanilla, citrus, stone fruit and warming spice.
Closely associated with the relaxed culture and cocktail heritage of New Orleans, Southern Comfort can be served neat, over ice or mixed with lemonade, cola and ginger ale. The range includes Southern Comfort Original alongside the more whiskey-forward Southern Comfort Black and higher-strength Southern Comfort 100 Proof. Southern Comfort has been owned by Sazerac since 2016, joining a portfolio of historic American whiskey and liqueur brands.
