Karuizawa (silent)

(Kari-zowa)

Originally established in 1956 in Nagano and now dismantled after being purchased by drinks giant Kirin as an already mothballed distillery in 2007. Most of what is available from this distillery is bottled by the number 1 drinks company as independent releases when they purchased the remaining stock in 2011. Karuizawa has now become number one in the world whisky index for collectable whisky knocking Macallan off the top spot after almost a decade on top. If you are ever lucky enough to try some of the whisky you are in for a treat of rich, bold and full bodied style of malt that tends to be quite heavily sherry cask influenced.
