Michel Couvreur

From a producer-trader origin of Burgundy wine, Michel Couvreur settled in Scotland in 1964 and studied whiskey manufacturing processes and In 1978 he recorded his company as distilling whisky in Scotland and specialized in unusual whiskey produced using traditional methods, such as using Bere Barley, taking its name from a variety of barley grown in Orkney . Unlike many independent bottlers, Michel Couvreur never reveals on the labels of its bottles the whiskey distillery where each occurred and even more unusually ages the Scottish malt in mainly ex-sherry casks back in burgundy, France and believes that 90% of the quality of a whiskey comes from the cask, and only 10% of the distillation process and sees the use of Bourbon casks , popularized since the 1970’s instead of barrels of Sherry rarer and more expensive, as a "great tragedy." He died August 17, 2013 at the age of 85 years so buy some of this obscure and unusual French/Scottish malt and raise a toast to a great man.
