Miltonduff

(Milton-DUFF)

Officially licensed in 1824 but like many distilleries in Speyside operated illicitly long before that. Largely rebuilt in 1974 and in 2005 came under the ownership of Chivas Brothers and still provides malt for the blends of Ballantines and Chivas Regal. A pair of Lomand stills was installed in 1964 to produce heavier, oilier malt intended to give the blenders greater variety and this can be found as single malt under the Mosstowie label. Not much in terms of official bottles or indeed a huge range of independent bottles from this large (5.5 million litres a year) distillery. Classic Speyside style with a floral, grassy, sweet malt and quite elegant house style.
