Scapa

(SKAA-pa)

One of two distilleries on the island of Orkney and safe to say does not enjoy the same prestige as the other one (Highland Park) and indeed very different in style as it is un-peated and exclusively ex-bourbon cask aged and much lighter and fruitier. Situated near the famous Scapa Flow in Kirkwall and established in 1885 to provide malt for blending and still an important component of the Ballantine’s blends today. In 2004 £2 million was spent restoring the distillery and now in the hands of Pernod Ricard of Chivas Regal & Glenlivet fame and official bottles of a 14 and 16 year old followed only for both to be discontinued and replaced by the non age statement Skiren in 2015.
