Girvan

Founded in 1963 on the Clyde coast and owned by William Grants & Sons.  Apparently built as a reaction to a threat from DCL (laterly Diageo) to stop providing Grants with grain for their blends, the distillery was built and operational within 9 months!  This also resulted in another Grants brand, Glenfiddich being launched as a single malt, funny how things pan out sometimes!  Continuing to produce grain for Grants blends, the site has also housed the Ladyburn distillery which ran from 1965 to 1975, Alisa Bay and Hendricks Gin, such is the size of the site.  Single grain whisky has also been released under the Girvan Patent Still label.
