Nose: Sherry soaked spongecake, nutty nougart, rum bhaba, dark honey on brown toast, thick cut marmalade, ginger, mocha, griddled pineapple with demorera sugar, leather and polished oak.
Palate: Rich dried fruit (think prunes in cognac or baked figs in dark honey) sticky ginger cake, full bodied and spicy oak without being overpowering for its abv, boozy sherry trifle sponge, rum and raisin chocolate, brandy snaps, treacle toffee.
Finish: Sultana pancakes with spiced honey, dry ginger, sticky dates and fig jam, nutty oloroso sherry, dark chocolate and some savoury/leather notes along with clove studded baked ham.
A great example of a lesser known Speyside distillery that is perhaps being more famous for the blend it goes into (Ballantines)
