Product Description

Mackmyra’s latest seasonal release, Skördetid, is an elegant whisky partially finished in Masi Costasera Amarone casks, which results in a whisky with sweet, vinous notes of grapes, raisins and a herbal spiciness.

Skördetid, which is Swedish for “harvest time”, is the result of close collaboration between Mackmyra and the Italian wine producer Masi, and is available in limited quantities.

This is the first time Mackmyra have presented a seasonal whisky with a Masi Amarone cask finishing. Using the wine to set the tone, Skördetid has a soft and spicy character that is suited to autumn and winter.

The whisky was initially matured in the Bodås mine in Sweden in Mackmyra casks between 2008 and 2012, and subsequently (a high proportion of the whisky) spent a final six months of finishing in Masi casks.

Nose: Spicy raisin fudge, dried cherry, black grape jelly, aromatic tobacco, fruity liquorice, fruits of the forest, vanilla extract and a whiff of an Italian winery.

Palate: Lots of grapey and berry flavours (like a medley of grapes from a Valpolicella harvest, fruits of the forest and black cherries) raisin fudge, aromatic spice, sour cherry sweets, red liquorice, sweet tobacco, pear frangipane.

Finish: More rum and raisin fudge, crunchy red and black berries, aromatic cherry jam, some peppery oak, red grape tannins and lasting sweet spices.

Mackmyra on a day trip to Northern Italy via the black forest.
