The latest edition of the best selling Islay single malt, Laphroaig 10 year old which is an extremely full bodied Islay peated classic.
Nose: Sooty chinease five spice, boggy-earthy-iodine peat, chilli flake on seaweed, caramelised onions and curry powder fried together. An almost meaty, tar or hemp like note.
Palate: Malty sweet peat with briney honey, chilli flake heat, white pepper on seaweed, more iodine, smoked ribs on a coastal bbq, five spice, smoked toffee and sooty aniseed.
Finish: Salty iodine, chilli flake and vanilla, earthy yet sweet, fish oils, black liquorice and lingering peat smoke.
Not the TCP peat monster i remember of old but still very much the marmite of the whisky world, people love it or hate it with equal measure. Decide for yourself by trying a truly iconic single malt.
