Product Description
A very highly rated and special Lagavulin 12 year old exclusively bottled in 2008 for the Friends of the classic malts society.
Destined to be a future classic and great to see Lagavulin aged in first fill European Sherry oak and bottled at 48% ABV
Nose: tarry treacle, oily fishing ropes, old dunnage warehouses on the Islay coast, menthol, mincemeat, blood orange marmalade on toasted fruitbread, savoury cured meats, mushrooms on the forest floor and all wrapped up in lovely layers of rich smoke and sherry wood.
Palate: A dark and charred oak delivery with the complex and bold smoke and sherry wood combining beautifully, rich and savoury, spicy and sweet and all seemingly at the same time! Nuances of black treacle, roasted chestnuts, tarmac, mint humbugs, dried fruit and honey drizzled smoked meat.
Finish: A real umami feel to this, think wet and earthy forest floors with a bonfire roasting chestnuts. Or even fresh tarmac outside a dunnage warehouse. Lingering sweet, savoury, leathery and meaty notes that you continue to chew on long after swallowing.
Simply stunning Lagavulin, some wonderful flavour combinations here and a reminder of just how consistently brilliant this distillery is for those who love the Islay style malt.
