Product Description

The 15th in a series of special 12 year old releases for the annual Diageo special releases.

The 2017 limited edition follows on from the 200th annivesary bottle from last year.

Aged in refill American oak hogsheads and bottled at natural cask strength of 56.5% ABV

Beautifully diverse in character, with minerality bursting into fruit and layers of smoke underneath, this is a far more complex, rewarding whisky than its years might first suggest.

Nose: Menthol, leafy and sooty peat smoke with delicate and layered fruity notes of angelica and poached pears in stock syrup. A more vegetal, coastal influence emerges with saurkraut and briney seaweed then notes of pine resin, almond milk, white pepper and apple skin.

Palate: Rich spicy green fruit and sooty white pepper infused peat smoke burst onto the palate which settles down into a mix of stewed rhubarb and pear with hints of something oily and rockpool like then a more mineral/leafy note along with nuances of preserved limes, aniseed and green fig.

Finish: Wonderful combination of sweet (green pear in stock syrup) vegetal (saurkraut) bitter (dark chocolate) and spice (white pepper & anise) notes with waves of clean and creamy peat smoke and hints of a damp and grassy coastal influence.

Always the bargain of the annual Diageo releases with great depth of taste and fine distillery character that is a delight to drink.
