Product Description

Featured in the 1001 whiskies you must try before you die book

Selected by Whisky Maker Max McFarlane this Highland Park has been drawn from seven casks laid down in 1970. All were refill casks comprising both butts and hogsheads and yielded just 1,800 bottles at a natural strength of 48%

"The hallmark of Highland Park production, an all-pervading obsession with quality and attention to detail, can be discerned in the distinctive aromatic, full-bodied floral sweetness of the whisky. The glory of Highland Park lies in its remarkable balance, this is as evident in the 1970 Vintage as in all other expressions." - Max McFarlane

Tasting Notes:

Colour: A wonderfully rich, deep burnished gold with great clarity and brightness.

Nose: First nosed straight, the 1970 Vintage displays Highland Park's signature honey sweetness. Next comes a burst of caramelised pineapple quickly followed by a lemon peel citrus kick. When water is added, sweet oak notes emerge followed by the scent of nasturtium petals and spicy woodsmoke.

Palate: At natural strength it has an intriguing mix of vanilla and coriander seeds; a drop of water reveals toasted peat smoke and cedar wood.

Finish: The palate retains satisfyingly sweet, spicy flavours before drying into an exceptionally long finish.
