Product Description
This is the first fully wine-cask matured Glen Garioch.
The Glen Garioch distillery is located in a small town in the Highlands, famous for producing some of the finest barley in all of Scotland.
It is very common for fine single malt Whisky to be “finished” is wine casks in order to add flavour and complexity. But Glen Garioch 1998 Wine Cask Matured spent all 15 years in premium French red wine casks, which transforms the Whisky into something entirely new - fruity, sweet and very spicy.
Nose: Black forest gateaux (chocolate and black cherries in syrup) red and black berries, grape skins, rum and raisin fudge, toasted wood, stewed rhubarb, plum jam on toast.
Palate: Fruits of the forest, dark chocolate, ginger, cherry bakewell, jam sponge pudding with custard, plummy wine tannins, honeycomb, mocha and rum bhaba.
Finish: Homemade red fruit jam, preserved ginger, treacle tart, cinnamon toast, raisin danish, bitter chocolate and dark honeycomb.
After 15 years in red wine casks you would think it would resemble a fortified red wine but this actually has better balance than many a wine cask finish that has only spent a few months in wine casks, a superb and very unique Glen Garioch release.
