Think Islay is all about peat, think again! Along with the Laddie 10 this expression shows just how good unpeated whiskies from the Queen of the Hebrides can be. The Bunnahabah 12 is double matured in ex - bourbon casks and ex - sherry casks, giving it a lovely creamy and sweet fruit balance.
A slightly sweet nose of creme caramel, malted biscuits and delicate maritme aromas (imagine walking along a beach with the tide coming in - quite subtle). The palate is light to medium and smooth, with a gentle sweet nuttiness (dessicated coconut and chocolate dusted Brazil nuts). There's also more of those bourbon cask vanilla and toffee flavours. Its a surprisingly long finish for a 'standard' whisky. A subtle richness rounds things off nicely.
Often overlooked for the smokier 10's and 16's of Islay's more illustrious distilleries, it shouldn't be....!
