A superb Islay blended malt bottled by Douglas Laing. This limited release (only 3000 bottles) is a 26 year old, 1992 vintage whisky, the second in a three part vintage series. Bottled at cask strength, without filtering and with natural colour. Thumbs up!
Whiskies used in this blend have been sourced from Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and rather interestingly, Port Ellen.
Mature and gentle on the nose, this whisky has aromas of smoked and cured barbecue meats, leather, beeswax and varnish and a saline note reminiscent of fresh oysters and mussels.
The palate is sweet and there's a creamy textured mouthfeel and then a of peat. Charcoal, campfire, bonfire, soot and pepper all give this whisky some serious Islay weight and power.
The finish continues with that warm and sweet feeling, with creates a lovely length that tails of beautifully with sweet charred savoriness. This is a top Islay whisky worth every penny!
