Silver Medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits competition 2019
New for 2018.. A 21-year-old whisky from the BenRiach distillery that has been aged in four different types of cask.
BenRiach 21-year-old is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels, virgin oak, Pedro Ximenez and red wine casks.
"BenRiach 21-year-old is the next step on [our] innovative journey, bringing together four eclectic casks in one single malt: Bourbon barrels at its core enriched by virgin American oak, Pedro Ximenez and red wine casks," said master blender Rachel Barrie.
This unpeated single malt is one of two BenRiach expressions to be released at 21 years old. The second, which is described as 'richly peated', will be launched in early 2018..
It opens with fresh summer fruit compote, soft vanilla and vibrant candied peel, developing into tangy red fruits, barley sugar and the warmth of chocolate ginger.
Our Tasting notes:
Nose: Red berry compote, fresh vanilla, toffee wafers, ripe melon, peaches in syrup, raspberry ripple ice cream, elegant spice.
Palate: Big ripe red berries, cherry bakewell, french toast, sweet spice and some cocoa.
Finish: Peach melba, raspberry jam, sweet aromatic spices, fruit and nut chocolate.
A soft and juicy Benriach with all four casks working in unison to create a lovely red berry-aromatic spice-cocoa-vanilla rich malt from this ever reliable distillery.
