Makers Mark
Started as a brand in the 1950s by Bill Samuels and now based in Loretto, Kentucky and famous for its hand dipped red wax neck seal and for being a wheated Straight Bourbon (no Rye in the mash bill of 70% Corn 16% Wheat and 14% Barley) bottled at 90 Proof and released at around six years old. Also in the range is a Barrel Strength 113 Proof and Maker’s mark 46 (47% abv that uses heavily toasted French oak staves to add complexity) both are however extremely rare to find in the UK. The distillery visitor centre also boasts a very impressive stained glass roof in the warehouse designed by renowned artist Dale Chihuly.
